“Time is running out for the Turtles to get home, and a new villain is determined to make life as difficult as possible for the Ghostbusters! The two teams will have to think outside of the box to save themselves… and New York!”
This is more like it.

With Donnie firmly ensconced with the Ghostbusters now this series kicks on with more fan pleasing dialogue and a story that is nearing a crescendo.

The budding relationships are very enjoyable to read, with the story giving us quite a few Ghostbuster/TMNT combo so far. Each gives us more insight into how the two groups work. Peter for instance seem bothered that Leo is the de-facto leader, whereas the busters seem to share that duty more amongst themselves. So I’ve enjoyed it, but there’s one guy I do not like at all in this series. It seems that Raphael is being used to counter the science love in by being a complete and utter dick. I don’t appreciate his impatience and rashness…and I sound like Leonardo.

One of the main things I liked about this issue is seeing a rookie using a proton pack for the first time. However unlike Louis Tully in GB2 Donnie is clued up and useful! He isn’t wearing ear muffs either so it’s a touch cooler. Being coached through his first use is pretty damn nifty. Ray and Egon in particular have taken are obviously taking a shine to him and they guide him nicely. Not that I’m jealous or anything…

With this being the third in a four issue series a lot had to be set up and the writing team handle it decently. It’s not just the problem of Chi-You and his thralls but also the issue of Casey Jones’s being taken over as head thrall (?), and the Turtles means of returning home not being ready yet. Though we’ve already seen two issues doing roughly the same thing (heroes fight Chi-You who promises he’ll be back!) it’s all kicking off and there isn’t much longer to wrap it up. But with the way the story has been built up so far I’m confident it can be completed strongly.

Chi-You must be being written well, because I really want to see him get smacked up! Fortunately it won’t be long until we get the final issue. Much like prequels, the problem with a story that takes place in-between issues is that you already know things are going to be OK. But that hasn’t stopped me becoming invested in the story. Kudos to the guys at IDW!

TMNT Tidbits! Watch out for spoilers.

  • A different Ecto!
  • Raph’s mention of a blimp. Love it. Had that toy for Christmas one year.
  • Don’t cross the streams!!!
  • Reading Donnie being coached is very cool. I always used to think the Proton Packs were guns, but later realised it was more like a whip. So it’s good to see it being explained.
  • Moo
  • Raph is bloody impatient isn’t he? Jerk.
  • Who wouldn’t want to run the sirens on Ecto-1? You’d be a fool not to!
  • Hitting the bad guy on the chest reminds me of the Lord Z putty patrol.
  • Mikey’s excitement is completely understandable. I’d be losing my shit.

I also have interviews with TMNT artists Ross Campbell and Mateus Santolouco!
