The Guest in 100 Words

Borrowing the simple plot ideas, snyth soundtrack and general ambience of many a horror film, The Guest is a fantastic slice of retro handled by a team who have the skill to do it justice.
Expertly ratcheting up the tension via music and mood it makes the most of Dan Steven’s highly intense presence. He’s so cool, polite and helpful that I didn’t want things to turn for the worse. But the fittingly clichéd cat and mouse final act provides a healthy dose of bullets and blood. Sometimes all a film has to do is a simple thing really well.

  1. Agreed. Like Wingard and Barrett's previous entry, You're Next, The Guest is a seriously good movie that, I suspect, went wayyyy over the heads of the usual multiplex crowd.
