Resident Evil: Retribution – Movie Review

I honestly didn’t think I’d watch a worse Resident Evil film. The first four entries had already been busy plumbing the depths and I really didn’t think they could go further. Alas, they have sadly.

As a big fan of the games (well 1-3), I despair as each film throws in more characters with names taken from the games. They even manage to make them look like their video game counterparts. But they are nothing like them in character, lacking any depth.

The whole thing is set out like a video game. As explained by exposition machine Albert Wesker, Alice finds herself in a test facility containing various zones. Each zone is based on a different city and our valiant troop must struggle through them.

Except…we just don’t care. There is no drama. The action doesn’t excite, and there is way too much explanation. The effects also look extremely lacklustre. The only saving grace was Sienna Guillory in a skin tight suit.

It’s just piss poor. I watched it because it was free and I’m a glutton for punishment when it comes to the Resident Evil franchise. Don’t waste your time.

Oh, and they fucked up Barry Burton. BARRY BURTON! You just don’t do that.
