In a world of reboots and interconnected universes Gods and Monsters makes for a refreshing change. It’s essentially an ‘Elseworlds’ tale, with animation supremo Bruce Timm in a producer role.
The DC Trinity are imagined extremely differently here, with different characters under the familiar capes and armour. These changes lead to a story free to do what it wants, including a large amount of killing. It’s very ballsy.
It’s an entertaining story without the obvious markers to know what’s going on. I may not have been amazed by it, but it’s a fine return to form after Throne of Atlantis.
