Foxcatcher covers the dysfunctional real life relationship between Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz, his brother Dave, and millionaire Jon du Pont.
Carell is truly unsettling as du Pont, his awkward gait and prosthetics removing any and all vestiges of Brick Tamland. Ruffalo deserves praise but it’s Tatum who shines; with several quality roles under his belt his legitimacy is unquestionable. Though Bennett Miller creates a bleak and foreboding tone, it’s disappointing that despite its long run time I didn’t feel as though I learnt enough about the characters bar broad emotional strokes. Oddly hollow, those strong performances are nearly cancelled out.
