Movie Review – Four Weddings and a Funeral

Four Weddings and a Funeral

If you don’t mind…and if it’s not too much trouble…I’d like to tell you what I thought of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

I wondered if I’d ‘get’ the whole Hugh Grant thing. He’s never struck me as particularly handsome and always does the same thing. Well, now I’ve seen the film I can say…that yes I do get it! He’s so awkward, and his eyes look like those of a sad puppy dog. But it works? I found him very charming.

In fact, the entire thing is so damned British that I was surprised it didn’t apologise to me before starting

Hugh aside, the cast has pretty much every British character actor of the time involved. It’s a who’s who of talent, but I found Simon Callow particularly entertaining. In fact, the entire thing is so damned British that I was surprised it didn’t apologise to me before starting.

I do love a good rom-com; they’re the sort of stories that I get heavily involved in. My wife always finds it amusing watching me boo and curse as the characters do dumb things, only to support them throughout and cheer at the end.

It’s well written, with pathos mixed in amongst the laughs. And then there’s Rowan Atkinson. Worth it just for him really!

I’ve seen a few films recently that I probably should have watched a long time ago. I’m really pleased I saw this one.
