Five years ago today I posted my first review on Super Duper Stuff. Funnily enough it was for a Spider-Man film (I’ll be sharing a review later today for the latest!). I’m always surprised to find out I’ve been doing this for another year, and I’m extremely thankful to all those who take the time to read and share my thoughts. I’m very proud of the site; it’s not bad for a hobby. Thank you all.
Following on from that, feels like a good time to mention something.
Super Duper Stuff has, alongside my cats, been a baby of mine.
But soon we’re going to have a real one. Yep, I’m going be a Dad very soon.
I believe my feelings of terror and excitement are pretty normal. To drive a car I have to pass a test. But there is no formal qualification for looking after a small human being! It doesn’t seem right! I mean, I have faith that we’ll be good parents but it’s still frightening.
We’ve spoken about it, and whilst Laura and I really want to meet Pip (our name for the baby as we don’t know the sex), and get past the being pregnant stage of things, once he/she is here that’s it. Our lives will change forever. No amount of ‘it’s hard but worth it’ is quite preparing me for that.
Pregnancy hasn’t been easy. I’ve been there as Laura’s gone through pain and sickness that I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to deal with, but she smiles at me and says “I’m OK”. I can’t take it away, and a lot of the time I can’t do much to help, but she keeps going. My respect for my best friend has reached levels I didn’t think possible. She’s nearly there, and I’m extremely proud of her.
So, what does this mean for Super Duper Stuff? Honestly, I don’t know. Obviously my time and focus are going to be elsewhere. We have a fantastic support network of family and friends around us but I’ve still made peace with the fact that I won’t be going to the cinema for a little while. There are so many unknowns, so I just don’t know how things will change yet.
I’m not shutting down or stopping. There will still be posts. I just don’t know how many and how often. You never know, we might end up with a really good sleeper? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
